IELTS Writing Task 2 – Environmental Problem

IELTS Writing Task 2 – Environmental Problem

Some people think environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve. Others, however, think that those problems cannot be solved unless individuals take some action. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Many often suggest that larger entities, like governments, should handle environmental problems such as air pollution and plastic waste. While individuals may not have the power to solve these problems on their own, I believe that small initiatives can create a ripple effect, and individuals and governments can work together to solve these problems.

Governments, as larger entities, have the power to take action against the pollution caused by factories and companies that harm the environment. They can impose laws to require factories to add greenery or reduce their carbon emissions by replacing machinery, penalize companies that use plastic instead of eco-friendly materials, and invest in and promote the use of renewable energy sources such as wind or solar power. The power of governments is required to handle these types of solutions, and individuals alone cannot handle them.

Despite the need for government involvement, individuals still have a crucial role in effecting change. Through social media, including influencers, they can spread messages and motivate followers to adopt sustainable lifestyles. For instance, encouraging the use of electric cars or eco-friendly cutlery can reduce air pollution and plastic waste. Collectively, individuals can drive a cultural shift towards environmentally conscious behaviors, creating a healthier environment for future generations.

In my opinion, the voice of the people is powerful. While individuals may not be able to directly fix the problem, by expressing their sentiments, governments can understand the desires of their constituents and act accordingly. Politicians, motivated by the need to secure votes, may take action on environmental issues if they recognize their importance to constituents. By working together, individuals and governments can make a positive impact on the environment.

In conclusion, individuals can make a difference by voicing concerns and spreading awareness about environmental problems. However, significant change requires collaboration between individuals and governments to create lasting solutions for the environment.
