IELTS Speaking Part 1 (Doing Sports)

Topic: Doing Sports
Difficulty: Medium

What sports do you like?

  • I find beach volleyball to be an enjoyable spectator sport. Additionally, I have experience playing table tennis, which I also find to be a fun activity.
  • I like volleyball and take pleasure in both watching and playing the game. I even practice tossing the ball at home in our garden.
  • I enjoy ball games such as football and basketball and was introduced to them at a young age. So, I started playing with my friends and eventually became proficient at both sports.
  • I have a strong affinity for basketball and derive pleasure from both playing with my friends and watching NBA games as well as local collegiate basketball competitions.

Where did you learn how to do it?

  • I started learning basic swimming techniques like the breaststroke and freestyle at a young age. In college, my roommate was a swimmer and encouraged me to continue practicing. During summer clinics, I took swimming lessons and worked on improving my breathing technique to increase my endurance. The lessons included various activities aimed at boosting my stamina.
  • I became interested in MMA after attending some local shows while in Cebu. The sport intrigued me, and I took the time to learn how it works.
  • I began learning how to play volleyball by watching games on TV and reading about the rules and common terminology. Eventually, I was able to play with my friends. At first, I struggled with serving the ball, but I researched online to find effective ways to improve my serve.
  • I was first introduced to playing soccer by observing others playing, and I asked my dad to explain the rules of the game. Soon after, I was given a chance to kick the ball and started learning different techniques to maneuver it.
  • When I was young, my dad, who was always in great shape, took me to a basketball clinic where I had the opportunity to train with professional coaches and learn how to play the game.

Did you do some sports when you were young?

  • I was fairly inactive during my primary school years and preferred to stay indoors and read. However, I began to develop an interest in sports around my first year of high school.
  • When I was young, we had limited space, so my parents got me a badminton racket and shuttlecock, and we played in the park. Despite the limited space, we were still able to play with other children or my cousins.

Do you think students need more exercise?

  • I have noticed that many students today spend a lot of time on their phones and often prefer to rest instead of engaging or doing sports or exercise due to their busy schedules. However, I believe it is important for them to break a sweat and participate in physical activities as a way to release stress.
