Do you think going to the cinema is a good way to spend time with friends?
Aya (High School Student)
“Um, yes, I think it’s a nice way to, uh, spend time with friends. Watching a movie together feels, you know, exciting. At school, we mostly focus on studying, so, uh, going to the cinema is, like, a special time to relax. I can also learn new English words from movies, which is, um, helpful for me. Even though I don’t go often, I think it’s a fun activity for bonding with friends. Sometimes, we discuss the movie after, which makes it even better.”
Minho (University Student)
“Yes, I think going to the cinema is a really good way to hang out with friends. It gives us, you know, a chance to relax away from studies. Plus, we can talk about the movie afterward, and, uh, it brings everyone closer. When I go with my friends, we often grab something to eat later, which makes it, like, a full outing. Watching a movie in a big theater feels, uh, more exciting than just streaming it at home.”
Linh (Office Worker)
“I believe going to the cinema is a great way to spend time with friends. It’s nice to get away from work and enjoy a film in a different environment. Sharing a good movie with friends creates fun memories, and afterward, we can discuss what we liked or didn’t like. In my experience, these outings help me, you know, unwind and feel more connected with my friends. For me, it’s not just about watching the film but enjoying the whole experience together.”
Mr. Wong (Retired English Teacher)
“Yes, I consider going to the cinema an excellent way to connect with friends. Watching a film together creates a shared experience, which often sparks conversations afterward. When we watch a movie as a group, it gives us a sense of togetherness, as if we’re sharing a small adventure. I remember some of the best times I had with friends were, actually, after watching thought-provoking films and discussing them in detail. So, yes, I believe it’s quite a meaningful way to spend time together.”
Do you often go to the cinema with your friends?
Aya (High School Student)
“Um, not really. I don’t go to the cinema very often, but sometimes, if a popular movie comes out, my friends and I plan to see it. Usually, I just, you know, watch things at home because it’s easier and, uh, cheaper. But I do enjoy it when I can go. If there’s a movie I’m really excited about, I’ll ask my friends if they want to go with me. But mostly, I watch movies online or on TV.”
Minho (University Student)
“I go to the cinema with my friends, but not very often. It depends on, you know, if there’s an interesting film showing. With busy schedules, we don’t always have time, but we make plans once in a while. It’s fun to go and see something new together, especially action or comedy movies. Usually, after exams, we’ll go to celebrate or just take a break. So, yeah, I enjoy it when we go, but it doesn’t happen too often.”
Linh (Office Worker)
“I don’t go to the cinema frequently, but when I do, it’s usually with friends. We like to choose films that we think we’ll all enjoy, like a good drama or something thought-provoking. With work, it can be hard to coordinate schedules, so we only manage to go maybe once every few months. Still, it’s always a nice break and a good chance to catch up with them in a relaxed setting. Watching together makes the experience more enjoyable.”
Mr. Wong (Retired English Teacher)
“I don’t visit the cinema very often these days, though I used to go more frequently when I was younger. Now, I tend to watch films at home, but occasionally, I’ll join friends or family if there’s a particularly interesting movie showing. The cinema experience is quite unique, but I find that most of my friends also prefer the comfort of home now. That said, when we do go, it becomes a rather memorable outing.”
Did you ever go to the cinema alone as a child?
Aya (High School Student)
“Uh, no, I never went to the cinema alone as a child. In Japan, usually, children go with family or friends. My parents took me to watch some animated movies when I was younger, but, um, I was never allowed to go alone. Watching a movie alone would feel a little strange to me, actually. I think, even now, I prefer going with someone.”
Minho (University Student)
“No, I never went to the cinema alone when I was a child. My family would, you know, take me to see kids’ movies sometimes, or I’d go with friends if we had a birthday party or something. I don’t think my parents would have been comfortable letting me go alone at that age. Now, I might go alone sometimes, but back then, it was always with someone.”
Linh (Office Worker)
“As a child, I didn’t go to the cinema alone. Usually, I went with my family or sometimes with friends from school. It was quite a treat for us, so I never thought of going alone. Even now, I rarely go alone because I enjoy watching films with others and talking about them afterward. Going alone as a child wouldn’t have been very common or comfortable.”
Mr. Wong (Retired English Teacher)
“As a child, going to the cinema alone wasn’t something I did. Back then, it was more common to go with family or, perhaps, friends. I remember going with my parents or classmates for school outings. Attending a cinema by myself wasn’t encouraged, especially at a young age. It’s interesting to see how social norms around cinema-going have changed over the years.”
Did you often watch films when you were a child?
Aya (High School Student)
“Yes, I watched, um, quite a few animated films when I was a child. My parents would sometimes put on movies at home, like, on weekends. I really liked, um, movies with adventure or cute animals. What films do you like?
Aya (High School Student)
“I really like, um, animated films, especially Japanese anime. Movies with, you know, adventure or fantasy are my favorites.
