IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Color
- What color makes you uncomfortable in your room?

- What’s the color you dislike? Why?
- What’s your favorite color?
What colour makes you uncomfortable in your room?
Red is intense. It fuels energy, movement, even hunger. But for a room? No chance. I want the opposite. A room should make you want to sleep, nothing more. That is why I stick to white, black, and blue.
Too much white feels clinical. Like a hospital. And let’s be honest, hospitals are designed for rest, not comfort. Blue settles the mind. It is calm. Black, on the other hand, is silence. It shuts everything down with no distractions. So as much as I like red, it is the last thing I would ever put in my room. Too much stimulation.
What colours do your friends like most?
Black. Simple as that. Always has been. We grew up in the era of emo and punk rock. Black was not just a colour. It was a statement. We went all in. Eyeliner, leather, the whole look. Looking back, it was a bit much, but that was the trend.
Even now, black still works. It is timeless. It makes you look sharp and lean. The problem is dust and dandruff. Anything light shows up on black. So as much as we love it, it is not practical every single day.
When it comes to gadgets, though, black is king. There was a time when everything was white. Computers, keyboards, phones. Then black took over and we never looked back. Now white gadgets are making a comeback, but we are not buying into it. Black just feels right.
What is the colour you dislike? Why?
Champagne gold. Cannot stand it. On gadgets, fine. It can look sleek if done right. But on other things like clothes, accessories, or furniture, it looks cheap. It is like something that has been left out in the rain and lost its shine.
I remember wearing a champagne gold shirt to the bank once. Worst decision. The bank teller looked at me like I did not belong there, like I could not afford to be in the building. It was uncomfortable. Since then, I have avoided that colour completely. Lesson learned.
What is your favourite colour?
Navy Blue . It is darker, richer, the kind you see in bank logos. The color has weight and authority. It is not loud, but it demands respect.
You see it in uniforms. Military officers, airline pilots, people in charge. It is bold, masculine, and professional. Perfect for formal wear. For gadgets, though, always black. No competition.
