Do you think it is better for children to grow up in the city or in the countryside?

Aya (High School Student):

“I think it is better for children to grow up in the countryside. Living in a rural area means they can enjoy nature, play outside freely, and experience a less stressful environment. Children in the countryside often have more opportunities to explore, like climbing trees, running through fields, and even helping with farm animals. These activities help develop a sense of responsibility and a love for nature. However, I understand that living in the city has its advantages, like better access to schools, libraries, and extracurricular activities. Still, I feel that the peace and beauty of the countryside provide a nurturing space for kids to grow up happy and healthy.”

Minho (University Student):

“I believe it depends on the child and what kind of experiences they need. Growing up in the city offers children exposure to diverse cultures, educational resources, and social interactions. They can meet people from various backgrounds and learn about the world early on. However, city life can be hectic and sometimes overwhelming, which might create stress. On the other hand, the countryside provides a calm and natural setting, where children can explore the outdoors and engage in activities like hiking or fishing. Both environments have unique benefits, so it ultimately comes down to what fits the child’s personality and needs best.”

Linh (Office Worker):

“In my opinion, growing up in the countryside has more benefits for children than living in the city. The countryside offers a sense of community and safety that can be very comforting. Children can learn valuable life skills by interacting with nature and developing a connection to the environment. They have the freedom to play outside without constant supervision, which promotes independence. However, city life provides children with many educational and cultural opportunities, such as museums, theaters, and diverse recreational activities. Balancing both worlds can give children a well-rounded upbringing, but I personally favor the peace and simplicity found in rural living.”

Mr. Wong (Retired English Teacher):

“I have always believed that growing up in the countryside has more advantages than living in the city. Children raised in rural areas enjoy a slower pace of life and have the opportunity to connect with nature on a daily basis. They can run freely, climb trees, and develop a deep appreciation for the environment. Moreover, the close-knit communities in the countryside foster strong relationships among families. However, cities provide access to better educational facilities and diverse activities. In the end, while both settings have their merits, I think the enriching experiences of nature and community in the countryside outweigh the benefits of urban living for children.”

What are your best childhood memories?
